Buying a yacht in the Caribbean

Buying a yacht in the Caribbean

BuyingYacht.jpg

Buying a yacht in the Caribbean is not to be undertaken lightly. But there are significant advantages to buying there too, not least that yachts tend to be cheaper to buy in the Caribbean compared with the price they’d fetch in the USA or across the Atlantic in European waters.

Here’s a collection of some of the best and most well-established yacht brokers in the Caribbean...

A&C Yacht Brokers

A&C Yacht Brokers is the official Caribbean dealer for: Jeanneau, Neel Trimarans, J Boats, RM Yachts and Astusboats.

Their site contains a large number of boats for sale, both new and second-hand in the Caribbean and Antilles Islands area as well as in Europe.

Boats moored in the Antilles Islands, the Virgin Islands and as far away as Trinidad can all be viewed in Martinique.

Caraibe Yachts

Caraibe Yachts was established in 1995, initially on Guadeloupe, and then on Martinique and finally in Florida (USA).

Caraibe specialises in the sale of secondhand boats but can assist with the sale of new boats.

“Our role is above all that of an advisor ; thanks to our long experience, our knowledge of the area and of the boats, we can find you the boat, new or secondhand, ideally fitting your program.”

The Yacht Market

Since its inception in 2003, co-founders of TheYachtMarket Richard W. Roberts and Simon White had one core mission in mind - to offer the very best online experience when buying and selling a boat.

In 2007, Richard and Simon were amongst the founding members of the Open Marine Initiative which created a free and open standard for boat data exchange. The philosophy of being trusted and transparent is extremely important to the business.

Sailboat-Cruising.com

Sailboat-Cruising.com is not a broker so seek no commission, nor do they make a charge for placing the ads. They only allow ads from the owners themselves - and it's all for free.

However there are other sources of secondhand cruising yachts, one of which is the yacht charter companies.

These companies update their fleets from time to time, selling off the older models. Horizon Yacht Charters have bases on several of the Eastern Caribbean islands, and would be good place to start looking.

Charter boats are generally optimised to maximise accommodation for fare-paying clients and, whilst being quite acceptable for Caribbean island hopping, may not make ideal long-distance cruising boats.
