HRH Princess Katarina: A Life of Grace, Heritage, and Caribbean Affection

HRH Princess Katarina: A Life of Grace, Heritage, and Caribbean Affection

By Caribbean World Magazine

In an age where elegance often takes a back seat to expedience, HRH Princess Katarina shines as a radiant example of enduring class, compassion, and noble purpose. A member of two of the most revered royal dynasties—the British Royal Family and the Royal House of Yugoslavia—HRH Princess Katarina embodies a regal legacy that extends across continents and generations.

A Royal Lineage Rooted in History

Born in London, HRH Princess Katarina is the daughter of HRH Prince Tomislav of Yugoslavia, the second son of HM King Alexander I of Yugoslavia, and HRH Princess Margarita of Baden, a niece of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and a cousin to HRH The Prince of Wales. Through both her mother and father, HRH Princess Katarina traces her lineage directly to HM Queen Victoria, placing her in the heart of European royal heritage.

Yet beyond the grandeur of her ancestry, there is a woman of remarkable substance—a modern royal with a heartfelt mission.

Royal Etiquette for the Modern World

After a period of personal reinvention following her divorce, HRH Princess Katarina embraced a calling uniquely suited to her poise and upbringing: she began teaching etiquette. What started as refined gatherings over tea has evolved into a series of acclaimed Royal Etiquette Workshops held at such prestigious venues as Blenheim PalaceThe Ritz Hotel, and Thornbury Castle.

Teaming up with Grant Harrold, famously known as “The Royal Butler”HRH Princess Katarina offers immersive training in royal and British etiquette—from the subtleties of Afternoon Tea to the graces of dinner party hosting. Each course is a step back into a world where manners, elegance, and mutual respect are revered.

In her own words, “It is so necessary to teach them when they are young and eager to learn.” Through her work with children and adults alike, HRH Princess Katarina ensures that the art of refinement is not lost, but renewed.

A Personal Awakening

Her life took a dramatic turn in what she refers to as a “frightening experience.” While visiting the Gloucestershire estate of art dealer Detmar Blow, HRH Princess Katarina severed an artery in her hand in a freak accident. Losing a dangerous amount of blood, she was only minutes from death.

That near-death moment became a turning point. “Every time I look at my scar,” she later reflected, “I realise all the good things I have—like my daughter, Victoria. I want to tell everybody to live life to the full—you never know, this might be your last day.”

This awakening added greater urgency and purpose to her life’s mission. HRH Princess Katarina emerged stronger, more vibrant, and determined to infuse her work with even deeper authenticity and heart.

A Caribbean Soul

Amidst the grandeur of European castles and noble gatherings, there remains one place where HRH Princess Katarina finds peace, joy, and healing: the Caribbean.

The Caribbean is the place to go to get rid of any stress you may have,” she says, her eyes lighting up with memories. Her travels have taken her to Jamaica, where she enjoyed the rich culture and history of Montego Bay and Rose Hall, as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she was warmly hosted at the Governor’s House and explored St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix.

Another cherished destination is Tobago, where she spent a serene holiday sailing and exploring the rainforest with her daughter. “It’s pure and pristine,” she recalls fondly. “The most beautiful water in the world. The most relaxing place to be—sailing, laughing. What’s not to like?”

HRH Princess Katarina has long been a friend and ambassador of Caribbean World Magazine, attending events such as the Jamaican Music and Film Festival, and always speaking passionately about the region’s unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness.

A Lady for Our Time

In HRH Princess Katarina, we find the rare fusion of Royal tradition and modern relevance. Whether she is guiding the next generation in proper decorum, supporting humanitarian causes, or finding serenity along Caribbean shores, she continues to inspire with quiet dignity and a generous spirit.

Her message is clear: grace never goes out of style, and the power of poise, purpose, and compassion remains as vital today as ever.
